Well things are looking a bit better today after Cosmos cancelled our holiday . So Im just going to have to fight for the deposit being paid back in cash .

There was also a matter of  Hotels I had booked as an extra week on Vancouver Island and Vancouver . Both to their credit cancelled without charge within the hour of me sending a cancellation e-mail  even though they were legally entitled to full payment . That's Canadians for you . :hattip

Although the travel company we booked through have converted our holiday to vouchers and the same with Ryan Air for the flight, they both know that once they're getting through the unprecedented amount of paperwork, we are wanting refunds. So they've made a note of this.

We're not willing to be swindled to rebook. We don't know what our circumstances are in the future and we're not prepared to be ripped off on inflated holidays.
How do you change your signature?

I'm not sure what the timescale was for this. I suspect the likelihood of the argumentative scum actually getting anything agreed this side of Dec 31st 2020 is rather unlikely, I suppose if by some miracle they do, the yes we may be impacted.

True, but laws cannot generally be retrospective, so keep holding their feet to the fire over this. I think I am quite blessed to have got the money back (over £3k).

I dare say I will lose it soon in increased taxation.

Aren't we still subject to their rules changes while we are where we are?

The EU was. But that's not our problem any more.

The CMA (Competion and Markets Authority) is getting tough on scum like wedding venues. Some of those are setting "cancellation fees" of up to 80% of the full price, and are demanding, sometimes with threats of court action, payment of that 80% even thought hey will not be able to host the wedding.

Fortunately My daughter Jen and her intended Ollie are not yet that far down the road.

The CMA have also started to crack down on UK based holiday companies and venues who refuse to refund holidays cancelled by the lockdown.

What they will not do is interfere with airlines whose operation they scurrilously say are the remit of the CAA...

One bit of good news to come out of this sh*t though.

Before this all kicked off, Jen and Ollie were being refused a mortgage on all sides partly because of her stupidity in getting into needing an IVA and his debt to income...

Suddenly the fact she paid off the IVA last year with a lump sum from the inheritance from mum seems to count more than the fact having had one stains her credit history for six years, and Ollie's debt to income ratio suddenly seems rather conservative and prudential compared to the hordes of unemployed they now have on their books, so several sources are offering them fixed term mortgages of up to £190K which will save them a fortune on the rent of a place...

Did I read somewhere that the EU is about to change the rules on airline refunds? Credit notes instead I believe. What is the betting that tour companies soon follow suit? I would rather lose the deposit than the whole lot as would happen if they go broke.

35 days till easyjet want the balance for my Greek holiday mid Sept

Not sure what happens then...

Ive got the same problem with Cosmos who I am supposed to settle the balance with in 3 weeks . Ive emailed them a couple of times regarding a refund on the deposit as an integral part of the tour has been cancelled by the Canadian government  . Im not getting anywhere with that in regards to a satisfactory reply and am being told to wait until they have official FO advice on travel in July .

As you allude JoG  the shite will hit the fan when  the holiday companies send out demands for payment on our summer holidays that many people now don't want to take and will in all likelihood be cancelled anyway . It appears its going to be a battle to get the deposit back ,there is no way Im giving them another £4 K to play with  if they refuse to cancel . I will then of course  be in breach and will loose the deposit .

Maybe Im just thinking the worst but the tourism industry is closing ranks on its paying public . Some of the hogwash Ive read on some of tour companies sites beggars belief never mind  illegal content .'''We are not in a position to offer cash refunds at this time . You will be pleased to know however that we will be offering our 'peace of mind' redeemable vouchers for travel in 2021 '' Yer OK , Ill have some of that ,not .

After contacting the credit card company, and them having sufficient time to contact the holiday firm, they have telephoned to make a refund to my bank account. Finally done the right thing.

Good result , Ive got all that to come . Makes me laugh really at  the holiday companies wait and see policy . See what exactly , Do they really think anyones going on holiday any time soon ?

Why not just think of all this missed foreign travel as your contribution to the fight against the adverse effects of climate change...?

Is the CO2 level down below 400 ppm yet?

If not, you're deluded.

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...
