I was doing some reading about the new baton rounds and riot control tactics actually.

Trust the yanks to come up with brutal things; a device that makes you feel like you're on fire.. but can be reflected back with simple aluminium (why do they bother..)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Denial_System">https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Denial_System

And over here new baton rounds that are more powerful than the old ones, apparently never used on the so-called 'mainland'.>>yet stockpiled by Boris as mayor after the 2011 riots. I don't really see the point.

Supposedly, wooden bullets (used by us police in Ferguson) just raise large bruises & welts at long range, and seem to be much less dangerous. Some NI journo described being hit by a baton round as akin to being hit hard with a hammer.

It was a reference to "urban legends", one or two of which have cropped up on here and the other forum from time to time. There are plenty of them. For instance, the old rubber bullet was about six inches long, 1.5 inches thick and hard as feck. You really didn't want to get introduced to one of those. Still, legend has it that after any particular nights heavy "protest" on the usual suspect nationalist estates, these spent rounds would end up in many a ladies bedside draw for ...erm... "entertainment" purposes

...Yet another way the Brit establishment has feckt the Catholics. ;)

QuoteThey say the moon is made of cheese you know. I'm sure he knows whether its Red Leicester or Stilton  ;)

It's a good way of hiding pills apparently, but it must be low in fat & lactose.

You said there was "never" a Cornish food riot not me.

Bread riots aren't food riots per se, but I would  not rule out food riots in the not too distant future anywhere in Britain, February 2021 seems likely.

If you knew your history you would know there were bread riots all over Britain around that time. (The 1840s until the 1860s.)

QuoteI at no time stated the police fired batteries at me or anyone else. ( I have modified ammunition in the past but not for firing at human targets.)

What about anti-gnome rounds?

There were food riots in Cornwall in the 19th c.

I had a mate in the army,he told me they fired batteries at rioters....lying git.

I wouldn't confirm or deny that  ;)

What I will point out is the ballistic and practical facts. An old type D cell battery is 33mm in diameter, and all RCAs in the British Army then were 37mm calibre because the weapon is multi-functional and that is the calibre of the munition used. Apart from that obvious difference, there were 3 different types of weapon (the FRG, the L48 and the modified Very type) with subtly different barrel lengths. There were also (after the old rubber bullets were phased out) 2 different type rounds, with different propellent charges (25 & 45), the latter being far more dangerous than the first

Baton rounds are relatively low velocity and so are unstable in flight, and although better than the old rubber bullet (which was supposed to be bounced off the ground), they would tend to spin end over end. Simply putting a battery down the barrel would result in an even lower velocity with both projectiles spinning wildly, making the chances of hitting anything you aimed at pretty remote. The allegation (again, I'm not commenting on whether its true or not) is that rounds were "tampered with", which would involve removing part of the PVC round to insert another object (coins, bolts, heavy washers, are other candidates). Considering rounds were usually not issued willy nilly (and in the case of 45g's only by Brigade authorisation) this would not leave much opportunity for someone to feck about with them.

Like I said - urban legends are the best, and squaddies aren't immune to them either. That isn't to say it either did or didn't happen  ;)

Hey, wait till you know who gets here and tells us all about the Cornish food bank riots of 2011, and how the rozzas fired HP2 batteries at him out of riot guns, and other associated urban legends

As far as aware there has never been a Cornish food riot, and LR-20 (D) batteries is the size to drop down the barrel of the old 37mm Schermuly riot gun, later 38mm.

Despite your denial that was ever done in riots in Northern Ireland during the troubles, it did even if it was rarely.
