I'm not sure why people in the UK would think JIT manufacturing in the UK would be hit because of Brexit, except in some limited cases. The fear with Brexit, with the JIT industry was the added delays caused by the extra import paperwork and delays from customs checks.
The UK is now a yr out, and it hasn't yet implemented the additional paperwork or customs checks due on imports from the EU. They should have and will do next yr. Why the delay, well its primarily down to the UK govt not having the people, processes or systems to handle the volume of work.
Some checks start in Jan with the majority in place by June, let's see if JIT is impacted after that.
i think you are flogging a dead horse at the minute. The bhoys and ghirls were waiting on the great christmas turkey shortage becuase of brexit that never materialsed gerry , and everyone went off when it never appeared in fits of laughter.

I tell you gerry ,  you remainers talk a good game , but your doom and gloom predictions just seem a wee bit wide of the mark .

Maybe this time next year gerry eh?;D

Well, yes, BUT (and remember, I came to my current job from my last where I did the entire IT development for a factory of 500 making car parts) it really is not that simple, as the disturbance in the smooth flow causes the conveyor belt equivalent of the two mile or more stationary queues at South Mimms every time some Tw** pulls across a lane at the Dartford Tunnel causing the lorry behind in the lane he just invaded to slam on the brakes.

That is to say, there ARE ripple effects and deniers of such are part of the problem not part of the solution

I've worked in logistics for a couple of companies.
Part of the Stobbart empire currently.

JIT is jokingly referred to as "just too late" by all the real comedians.

And yes if we don't get stock in time production ends.
Last time that happened where I work was 2016. A critical shipment from China was a a few days late. Lots of staff sent home. Inventing jobs for people to do to waste their time, etc.

When I was in an engineering company it was pretty common.
JTL.
They worked with very, very limited amounts of stock.
No real show stoppers. People got on with something else until the bits arrived.

If you expect goods coming via Calais to take longer to arrive than they did last year, order them earlier than you did last year.
It isn't rocket science. Sorry.

It took the IT dept here double the amount of predicted time to adjust the system due the new EU rules this time last year.
4 hours instead of two.
The system was down the whole time, but no bother not much work to do at this time of year.
Now it's back to normal.
You press the button, the label prints, DPD collects.  Job done.

Nick you keep you head where the Sun don't shine if you like Brexit is costing business a lot more now. To the point it is making exporting to the EU and importing from it just too costly to keep doing. I suspect the next batch of regulations coming in on January the 1st 2022 will be that last nail in the coffin for a significant number of small businesses.

So far I've read this year that the company I work for no longer exports to the EU or ships to Northern Ireland.
News to us of course, but I don't appreciate the bad publicity and have to wonder how many customers this fake news has cost us.

Our JIT supply train is working just fine.
No problems at all.
We import from all of the world. EU included.
Same goes for exports.

Open for business. It's as easy as it ever was.
Just DPD it. Job done.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

My wife gets violent when called a liar. You can post up all the web links you like. You are very obviously ignorant of EPOS stock control systems which supermarkets use.
Transactions for each product sold is recorded at the tills, stored at branch then once a day sent to the company mainframe.
That check the stock of each product that particular store sells. What is stocked at each store varies due to sales data over time at each store. Some items are not available some stores due to no demand in those stores customer base.
Speciality products, (such as jars of Pomegranate seed,) are not stocked in large amounts, so it only takes a few customers to buy on the same day and there will be none at the store.
There also may be few in stock at the main warehouse or the supplier, (Suppliers stock computers are connected to the EPOS system.)

EPOS works well, but unless supermarkets are forewarned of specialist items that a TV chef is going to use before the program is aired shortages occur.

Saint Delia could empty supermarkets shelves of some items until a forewarning agreement was made.

So Nick please stop calling me and my wife liars because of your ignorance.
Pomegranate seeds are hardly specialist
Just about every supermarket sells them , as well as amazon

Don't be silly.

If it takes 5 days to deliver, you order 5 days ahead.
If what took 24 hours to deliver now takes 25, you order 25 hours ahead of your expected need, not 24.

Brexit notably didn't cause any significant supply issues here.
No Kent carpark for lorries.
No queues at the docks.
No empty supermarkets.

JIT is alive and well. As earlier pointed out it is a Japanese system.
You will find that JIT supply chains are far wider than just the EU.
EU and non EU supplies are used in most supply chains.
Being an EU member has no relation whatsoever on your ability to use JIT methods of stock control.

I don't approve of banning folk, but I have to say that I like Ollie's turn of phrase :)
Neither do i borkie , but some folk are beyond any form of reasoning that there can be no other course of action. I think , as i always say , cromwell and the mods have been remarkably restrained with smurf over the years.

Im not sure i would have the patience.

Especially when they are being dragged into his lies and web of deceit that he spins to wriggle out of the many falsehoods he spouts daily on this forum. Sometimes a rabid dog needs put out of its misery.
