Sheepy

I reckon it is funny as feck, not only can they laugh at you when they feel like it, they can poke everyone in the eye as well.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

Nonsense. He did the exact opposite of that by driving socialism and socialists out of the Labour Party and accepting the Thatcherite status quo, allowing it to become an integral and accepted part of the establishment. By turning Labour into another Thatcherite establishmentaian party, he made democracy safe for the wealthy elites, and prevented Labour from being any kind of threat to them. That's the real reason for his knighthood. It is a reward for services rendered to a wealthy and elitist establishment.
steve , i think it was a tongue in cheek comment by hallowed. Fully agree with your post though.

I did mean, no harm done to the perception of Blair, as some sort of bogey man, which is so important to the Tory machine.
The tory machine?

The snp , liberals and many other parties cant stand tony blair , as well as the public by and large . Fack all to do with the tory machine.

You just have a problem in accepting the legacy of the man is ashes , and he is hated by all and sundry except the few delusional.

That fact starmer and his party are modelling themselves on this character is brilliant in my opinion , hence why your comment no harm done is pretty stupid.

Does anyone know if Blair's Knight of the Garter gives him a seat in the Lords?
I didn't know either so did a brief search and found this....

Difference Between Lord and Sir | Compare the Difference Between Similar Terms

T
his tends to suggest that knights are still considered to be commoners who can be elected to the Commons but who do not get automatic seats in the Lords.

So with any luck we might still be spared the spectacle of him popping up there.

I totally agree with you. And you and I in microcosm serve to illustrate how both right and left are united in utter disdain for the man.
I'm not really one for petitions but surely there must be one?
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

It was never going to go down well with the voting public. Because both right and left - who disagree with each other on almost everything else - are united in disdain for this man.

I have wondered if there is a clever machiavellian motive behind this. After all, whilst everyone except a handful of Labour centrists and a couple of hundred Labour MPs have utter disdain for the man, he is Labour's baby. The Labour party allowed him into their ranks, allowed him to rise to prominence within it and eventually elected him as leader. Putting Blair in the news in this way will just remind people of the absolute shiteness of Labour, adding to Starmer's efforts in the same direction.

Mind you, now that the establishment has regained control of the party after a five year hiatus, and in the face of utter sleaze and incompetance and corruption from the government, it is probably in the interests of the establishment for Starmer to do well, so that as their man he stays in place. It would however suit the Tories to have the public reminded of Blair. But that would involve crediting them with a cleverness that has not been very much on display in recent years. And if JoG is correct, this award might not have even been within their gift, but was an award made at the will of the Queen herself. If so, what the feck was she thinking?

No harm done? Well i think that remains to be seen.

Certainly in scotland among friends and family , and many others its another nail in labours coffin.

Well whatever the truth regards Blair, someone in power right now knows his true value, as if it was just a bogey man they wanted then nothing will change, and there was no need to elevate him in this way.

Surely more to the point is who was so desperate for him to have this acclaim by the award of  the highest of knighthoods.?
And why? It would seem that as long as his name remains blackened for public consumption , alls well, and no harm done.

Ed Davey, the leader of the Lib Dems is a knight, as is Keir Starmer. And now dear old Tony has been given one. Everybody in fact, except folk such as Boris Johnson who actually have a bit of power.

When I was a lad and went to the funfair, after you had spent the afternoon winning nothing on the various stalls, the stall holders would give you a goldfish by way of a consolation prize. It was a nice gesture, but at the end of the day it was only a goldfish and not much in return for a day of failure and expense.

The sad thing is that poor old Tony is so desperate for public acclaim that he accepted the award.

His real crime was forcing socialism on the UK. It's a shame capital punishment was abolished but now that we're out of the dreaded EU, we can bring it back.
No it's not a shame, capital punishment is a shame, and we abolished before an eu existed.
Nothe only shame here is the honours system.
