We had these Nigella Lawson Brussel Sprouts with our last Christmas dinner and very nice they were to:-

2 tbsp regular olive oil
25g unsalted butter
1 leek (125g-150g trimmed weight), thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
50g (approx 2 small) preserved lemons, finely chopped
1 tsp ground cinnamon
750g Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved from root to tip
2 tsp sea salt flakes
125ml water from a freshly boiled kettle
Leaves from a small (approx 25g) bunch flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped
4 tbsp pomegranate seeds

  • Heat the oil and butter in a casserole or heavy-based pan that has a lid, and fry the sliced leek, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes over a medium-high heat until softened but not browned.
  • Add the minced garlic and finely chopped preserved lemon and stir again, before adding the ground cinnamon.
  • Now add the halved sprouts and turn them in the pan to get them really well coated before sprinkling with the salt and pouring the water into the pan.
  • Stir again, then clamp on the lid and cook them over a medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes until they are tender, but not soft.
  • Once they are ready, stir through about three quarters of the chopped parsley and 2 tbsp of the pomegranate seeds then turn out into a bowl. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley and pomegranate seeds then serve.

All very well but I don't have the time to piss about doing that with Christmas turkey on the go.

Its like there was a programme on one of the Freeview channels pre the COVID meltdown when I'd just bought the Amazon fire stick, between Christmas and New year. Gordon Ramsey showing you how to do the most amazing eggs Benedict for Christmas morning.

But who the **** has time to do that then ??

You can coat a turd with honey. But it is still a turd.

Brussels sprouts are an evil plot by the EU to force us all to eat the horrible things.

The clue is in the name.

Brussels sprouts.
We should grow our own and rename them British sprouts. Union Flag

And export them all to Belgium by way of a counter attack.

Some HSE directives must be thought up whilst they were leathered though.
I sometimes think the same about some Tory government announcements.

The next step for Truss should be abolishing the cap on bankers bonusses, which would be one of the obvious benefits of Brexit. Then we can start tearing up red tape, like health and safety in the workplace legislation, and rights to paid leave. Next we can boost growth and prosperity by giving more to the rich and giving the poor a damned good kicking so they get off their lazy arses. Because their obvious poverty is their own fault of course. Personal responsibility and all that. We can boost NHS funding by allowing American healthcare companies to bid for NHS contracts and start charging people to see their doctors. We could privatise the army and let it out as a mercenary force to the highest bidder. We could finance tax cuts for the better off to encourage their hard work, by slashing benefits for the poor. Because even the working ones are clearly just being lazy, otherwise they'd all be rich like the real hard workers of this country.

Remember how we clapped our hands for all those key workers, like bankers and City whizz kids, media moguls, and politicians, CEOs and hedge fund managers who kept the country running through covid? It is now time to reward them through hefty tax cuts. And this will reduce inflation by sucking more money out of the economy into offshore accounts. Win, win.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

So I just read bans are being lifted and somehow Thomas got a ban. Love him or loathe him, the guy was a great poster if anything just to read what he had to say and he was always a great adversary when we disagreed on things which was often. I was wondering why it was so quiet on here, so if his ban has been uplifted can we actually tell him so he comes back.

Also Pappy, the greatest poster to ever grace this forum, can we get him back and let him know he's unbanned too. In understand Pappy might have over stepped the mark, but in the spirit of good will, everyone deserves a second chance.
